Overview
Every LiveKit Cloud project is assigned to a data region where LiveKit stores and processes project data, including data used by Agent insights and session analytics. You choose the region when you create the project, and it can't be changed later.
If you turn on agent observability, LiveKit Cloud stores traces, logs, metrics, transcripts, and session audio recordings in your project data region. Agent insights uses this data to provide observability into your agents. Turning off agent observability limits the data LiveKit Cloud collects for observability, but doesn't change where it stores other project data.
Available regions
LiveKit Cloud offers the following data regions for your project.

The region selector on the project creation page shows the regions available to your account, and is the authoritative list.
Choose a region
Use the default region unless your region choice is dependent on your compliance obligations. For example, if you serve users in the European Union and need GDPR data residency, select European Union (Frankfurt) at creation.
The data region doesn't restrict where you can deploy your agents or change how your users connect to a session. You select an agent's deployment region separately when you deploy it. LiveKit Cloud is globally distributed and connects each session through the region closest to the user, independent of where it stores your project data.
Select the data region when you create the project in the LiveKit Cloud project creation page . A new project defaults to the United States.
Change the region
The data region is immutable. LiveKit can't move an existing project to another region, so if you chose the wrong region or need to change it, you have two options:
- Create a new project with the region you need and migrate to it.
- Contact LiveKit support to discuss your options.
Agent deployment regions are separate
Where your agents run is a separate setting from where LiveKit Cloud stores their data. Deploying an agent to an EU region while the project data region sits outside the EU produces a cross-region advisory in the dashboard, because the session data leaves the EU even though the agent runs inside it.
